Between Worlds: A Greek Civilization XR Experience

A collection of interactive virtual and augmented reality experiences developed in partnership by the Spatial Interface Research Lab and the SNF New Media Lab for SFU’s Stavros Niarchos Foundation Centre for Hellenic Studies.

THE PROJECT

This project – a collaboration between SFU’s SNF Centre for Hellenic Studies (SNF New Media Lab), the Spatial Interface Research Lab, and the Museum of Vancouver (MOV) – was conceived as a pilot project, exploring the application of XR technologies in a controlled, cultural heritage setting, open only to select groups of senior elementary school students and VIPs. The interactive exhibit offered five XR experiences: VR – Tholos at Delphi and VR Underworld (Hades), AR – Greek domestic life, AR Greek house, and AR Trireme battle.

All applications were developed with Unity – for the Oculus Quest and Android based mobile devices.
